Illustration and graphic design

I have worked in the area of graphic design, digital illustration, and web design in parallel with my other interests for over two decades.

Much of my recent work has been for the Program on Science and Technology Studies at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Below is a sampling of my poster and illustration work, as an indication of my aesthetic. I am potentially available for work by commission, if the project is sufficiently interesting.

Cover illustration (and website) for the book Unmaking the Bomb by Harold Feiveson, Alexander Glaser, Zia Mian, and Frank von Hippel. This isometric rendering of an “exploded” Fat Man design is meant to emphasize the tiny fissile material “core” at its center. I also developed an interactive visualization of the parts of the bomb as The Visible Atomic Bomb for their website.

Poster for a talk by William D. Nordhaus on international cooperation relating to climate change. 3D rendering created with Blender.

Poster for a workshop relating to CRISPR. Obvious inspiration from MC Escher. Image created in Blender.

Image for a talk by Anne Wojcicki — DNA as a staircase. Image created with Blender.

Poster for a talk by Sunita Narain on India’s environmental movement. Image created in Photoshop.

Poster for a talk by Neil Walker on the relationship between constitutional democracy and COVD-19. A spin on Hobbes’ Leviathan. Image created in Photoshop, with some hand-drawn art.

Poster for a conference on J. Robert Oppenheimer for the centennial of his birth, UC Berkeley. The image is of a proof sheet from a photo session with Oppenheimer created by Ulli Stelzter, meant to represent the many ways in which historians understand the enigmatic figure.
